I first met this beekeeper/editor and architect duo last year. They were looking for someone who could precisely share and implement their vision. The front cement walkway had to go. The entire grade of the front yard had to be raised, and new lawn and beds needed to be installed. We worked as partners, choosing edging material, plant placement and a trip to the nursery to choose the right material. We all agreed that the Seven Sons trees would make a great statement flanking the front stairs. These are wonderful trees that have an unusual end of summer bloom. At their feet we added bee friendly white catmint, annabelle hydrangeas and dogwood shrubs. We checked all the boxes but, how to match the antique granite of the existing stairs? After much searching, we were able to source antique granite from the old Longfellow bridge. Most likely, the original pink granite stairs and Longfellow granite were sourced from the same local quarry many moons ago. It was an exact match. Best of all (see below) we were partially paid in honey!
Special kudos to Luiz and Lucas who figured out to move ultra heavy granite steps into place. #old school masonry!
