When I first arrived on the property, I found a tired landscape that had a lot of possibilities.
A dangerous set of stairs led to a steep, unusable backyard. The clients wanted a big space where their three children could play.
Faithful Flowers and partner, landscape architect Steve Woods designed a plan to create spaces of play, relaxation and entertainment for the young family.
The backyard was leveled, a grand main staircase installed and retaining walls were constructed. Thanks to the incredible talent of stone masons from Ken Fenton's crew at K.T. Fenton Masonry and Mike Magee's general contracting services.
The upper yard was regraded and a bluestone terrace was constructed for family outdoor dining.
Large trees were ordered to screen the lower yard and provide privacy. A combination of trees was chosen to create a woodsy feel.
Tree expert Andrew Airoldi, The Tree Advocate installs the green screen.
Special drought resistant, tough turf is trucked from Rhode Island. It had been harvested just that morning.
The new bluestone terrace looks out into the lower yard and beyond. A wonderful perch to grill and dine on. Beds constructed around the terrace provide areas for the family to grow their own herbs and vegetables.
Long beds line the bluestone walkway. Plantings will bloom all three season. Tulips, iris and azalea in the spring, geranium, coneflower, forest grass in the summer and sedum, hydrangea in the fall. A venus dogwood shows off spectacular white blooms in the late spring. Colorful roses climb the pretty iron fence.
The woodsy green screen has begun to grow in and provides privacy and a stunning combination of color and texture. In the planting pocket on the left, knockout roses lead you down the stairs. Large Japanese snowbell styrax trees are planted opposite.
Oversized containers specifically sourced to work with the client's door and house colors are changed out seasonally.
This property has been renovated inside and out. Faithful Flowers worked closely with the interior design firm Dietz and Associates to make sure that the extraordinary and unique interior design was reflected in the landscaping design and choices in the natural world.
